Paragliding Hatcher Pass

All the gates are open up Hatcher pass, so we decided to take a ride up there for the 4th of July weekend to venture past where we had previously been.

Hatcher Pass is such a beautiful place!   The mountains are so rugged, carved out by glaciers and coated in the summer with the greenest foliage I have ever seen.

Beautiful day to fly!

While there will be many more posts about the myriad of activities to do up Hatcher, the paragliders launching from past the summit gate made quite the visual spectacle to watch.  So we did just that:  watched, took pictures, and dreamed that one day, we could experience it.

Paragliding Hatcher Pass

I tried paragliding in Utah when I was in high school, and again in southern Utah when I guided rivers.

I never really got more than about 20 ft off the ground with the safety precautions in place.  I definitely wanted to go higher!

High Flying

Flying high

The closest thing I’ve done to paragliding at heights is actually parasailing behind a boat about 400 feet in the air.  While it was loads of fun, I was still tethered to a boat!

You definitely want to turn before you hit one of these mountains!

True paragliding is something I’ve always wanted to try.  I can’t imagine the freedom they must feel.

Almost a head on collision.

Hanging with a buddy-2x the fun!

Maybe I will one of these days!  It didn’t look like there were tandoms, so I better wait until my kids are a little older!

It appears there are several launch points to hike to and take off from.

Then it’s off you go into the wild blue yonder.

Eventually they land (most are followed by a chaser car).  What a unique set of memories they must have to cherish!

Fun to watch and dream

I admit it, I’m a little jealous…but even just watching them sets my spirit free…
