Life in Alaska

Goodness and Light

As I was driving home from work the other day, I listened to Christmas music on the radio.  The station was playing the classics and I felt overwhelmed with nostalgia reflecting on Christmas’ past. Memories flooded my thoughts.

A ‘Wonder Horse’ at Grandma’s when I was maybe 2, playing games with my sister most of the night every Christmas eve, our children all home when excitement reigned; family, fun, food, peace, joy, wonder and anticipation.  Emotionally, I sighed…where have the years gone.

Life is moving so fast and I want is to capture the precious times before the sands bury them. I’m barreling towards my 49th Christmas ready or not.

I miss Candace and Haley so much.  The sense of unbounded joy I usually feel is somewhat dulled by a feeling that significant parts of my heart are missing.  All I want is my family gathered around.

But, the words to a song playing on the radio hit home and reminded me that there is always a reason for a beautiful Christmas season.  A burning hope that can never be darkened by the madness the world is slipping into or any sadness I feel.

The answer to my troubled thoughts?  HE will bring us goodness and light.

Goodness and Light

Doesn’t the world need that?  My heart soars when I think of the priceless gift a loving Heavenly Father gave his children on earth.  A perfect being born into humble circumstances to become the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Prince of Peace…A Savior for all mankind.  The Light of the world.

He is my older brother, my friend, my shoulder to lean on when trials arise.  He has carried me, loved me, forgiven me and taught me.  He died for me that I might live.  I am eternally indebted to Him for this gift I can never repay.

I can only remember Him always, while bearing witness of His divinity to all who will listen, showing by word and deed what I believe:  Jesus is the Christ, the son of God who’s birth we celebrate each year December 25th.  He is the true meaning of Christmas…the greatest gift the world will ever know.

He is goodness and light.  And I feel at peace.

He will bring us Goodness and Light

Merry Christmas

From my family to yours, Merry Christmas from the Last Frontier.  Thanks for allowing me to reflect on what Christmas means to me.  May you and yours have a blessed holiday season!
